UPDATE: The Next Web Startup Awards Europe 2013 roadshow comes to Barcelona …

Since the date of this post, The Next Web has reported that it has been uncharacteristically overwhelmed by the huge interest in the European Startup Awards across Europe. So much so they have …

… decided to make this year’s European Startup Awards online only followed by a meetup (see below) instead of an awards show. Voting, judging and awards will take place online and the final stage of voting will be available publicly on the web for everyone to see.

What this means for the overall European Startup Awards, you can see TNW’s explanation of the revised Awards process and final ceremony, here.  As for the Spanish Startup Awards ceremony slated for Feb. 7th in Barcelona, TNW informs that:

The awards (nominations, voting, and announcing the winners) will all be done online. The winners will be announced on the website, Wednesday February 6th.

We’d still love to meet up with the local tech community, the nominees and winners, we’re organizing a meetup with European editor Robin Wauters on February 7th.

We’re keeping it small and informal and we’re asking a small fee to attend the event. No Awards will be handed out here, it’s a networking night, organized with Barcelona.io.

The meetup will be at at Gran Foc, Carrer de Roger de Llúria, 23 in Barcelona.

We have limited capacity, so if you like to meet up with your peers and Robin Wauters, please do so now. NOTE: your previous RSVP is not valid for this meetup.

Register via: http://ssatables.paydro.net

The first drinks are covered by our partner Paymill. Looking forward to meet you in Barcelona.

We’ll leave the text of our previous post, below, so that new readers can get a feel for the scope of the European Startup Awards and 12-city roadshow undertaken by TNW …

TNW logoAs part of its ongoing Startup Awards Europe 2013 12-city tour, visiting a dozen European tech hubs to discover and reward the best startup, founders and investors on tap in Europe today, online tech publication The Next Web is coming to Barcelona on Feb. 7th to present the TNW Spanish Startup Awards:

Venue: To be announced

The Next Web, now in its seventh year online, is one of the world’s most influential technology news sites, with more than 7.2 million monthly visits and 9.5 million monthly page views. By the time TNW’s Startup Awards Europe 2013 tour reaches Barcelona on Feb. 7th, it will have already visited Berlin, London, Dublin, Paris and Bucarest, with six whistle stops after Barcelona before the tour culminates on Feb. 28th in Copenhagen, all in the run-up to the annual The Next Web Europe Conference set for Amsterdam in April.

Unlike some awards competitions, TNW’s Startup Awards Europe 2013 gives you a chance to participate in the first-round public voting for your favorite startups — helping TNW to field nominations, before they whittle down the number of submissions to a shortlist for finalists and award winners across seven categories.

Spanish Startup Awards voting opened Jan. 10th and will run through Jan. 30th online at this link: http://thenextweb.com/startupawards/spain. If you sign-in before the end of this month, you can nominate your favorites in the categories of: Startup of the year, Best Co-founder, Best web app, Best mobile app, Best design, Best user experience and Best investor.

The TNW judging panel will select a maximum of five (5) startups per category in advance of a weeklong final voting round, in which you’ll once again have a chance to vote on your favorites in each category via TNW’s online platform.

The winners in each of the seven categories will be announced during Feb. 7th Spanish Startup Awards ceremony, with the prizes bestowed by TNW Europe Editor Robin Wauters and the team at Barcelona.IO, who are the local Barcelona co-hosts of the event. Among the awards are a free pass to attend The Next Web Europe Conference in Amsterdam in April.

And, best of all (?) you can attend the Spanish Startup Awards Ceremony to see the award presentations and enjoy “a night of fun, excitement, networking and champagne.” What’s not to like about that! The first 60 tickets are free, then it’s €15 a head, so mark your calendar and register, now!
